Statuslog - October 2026
This month was characterized mostly by reading and gaming, with some appreciation for autumn sprinkled in. I wasn't super prolific about posting status updates this month, but here's what my statuslog looks like for October.

I'm always happy to get a new issue of Unwinnable's Exploits in my inbox, but this month had a piece on Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 from the 1970s that might just be my favorite Exploits piece ever. Now please excuse me while I go listen to Dolly Parton's "Baby I'm Burnin'."

Games I want to play in October: Silver Pines, Paranormasight, Look Outside, Forbidden Solitaire, The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, and NG+ Silent Hill Townfall to try for another ending

🎃 The beginning of my favorite three months of the year is here! Happy October!

I read my first story for #31SpookyStories today! I chose The Madam of the Narrow Houses by Caitlín R. Kiernan, one of my favorite horror writers. Atmospheric and dark yet hopeful, I really enjoyed this one. Looking forward to reading more as October goes on!

I'll keep updates on this thread and with this hashtag if you want to follow along. I'm also currently reading Parasite Eve, a great way to start October.

Today is #BandcampFriday, which means Bandcamp waives their fees and all proceeds go directly to the artists. It's a great day to purchase any music you've been thinking about getting. Here are my new purchases!

I watched Crimson Peak and colored a page in my Halloween coloring book, because those are the kinds of things you do in October.

October 5, 2026 @ 10:17 AM
Today I read my second story for #31SpookyStories - Collect Call by Sarah Pinborough. Chilling despite its hot setting in the desert, I really liked this one about how being good to the people we love will come back to us at the end of life.

Amazing to see that Wax Heads is getting a physical release and a vinyl! Love this game and its eclectic soundtrack.

🔬 Reading the Parasite Eve novel is making me want to replay the game, but I'm waiting til Christmas to revisit it. It's my #1 Christmas game.

Absolutely loved this deep dive into the Gothic themes found in Silent Hill: Townfall. Wonderful video.

It's also kinda perfect for me at the moment because I've just finished Townfall and am currently reading Frankenstein.

My third story for #31SpookyStories was Afterward by Edith Wharton, and it's my favorite one so far. A classic but unexpected ghost story.

And I went ahead and read story #4 as well! This one was Return by Yvonne Navarro. Shocking, heartrending, and difficult to read but somehow comforting in the end.

All of these stories have been bangers so far, so I think I'll stick with this book until the end and try to continue until I've read all 25 of its stories. I'm reading from The Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories by Women, edited by Marie O'Regan.
October 14, 2026 @ 12:06 PM
Read two more stories today: Dead Flowers by a Roadside by Kelley Armstrong and The Ninth Witch by Sarah Langan. The first was a heartbreaking meditation on grief, and the second was a unique post-apocalyptic horror story about a woman finding her own strength.

📝 I absolutely love today's "thought of the day" from Wordsmith's newsletter: "The world is mud-luscious ... puddle-wonderful." -E.E. Cummings, poet (14 Oct 1894-1962)

🏷️ After preparing for over a week, we had our garage sale today, and it was more successful than I expected it to be. It was a nice day! I'm so tired now, though.

We had a nice autumn walk yesterday with cool weather and a lovely breeze. I could tell Ranni was loving it. She hasn't been a fan of the heat, and neither have I!

☃️ Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I've strangely been in a wintry/Christmassy mood lately. I don't want to skip any part of the 'ber months, but I'm already making plans for the Christmas season.

Finished Silver Pines! Incredible game. Challenging, rewarding, super atmospheric, and just so much fun at every turn.

These last couple of weeks have been super busy and I've lost some progress on my goals for the month, but it's all good. I should be back to posting more regularly soon!
