Making Valentine Cards
I'm trying to be more creative and hands-on lately, so instead of buying Valentine's Day cards for my family, I decided to make them myself. So far, I've made cards for my parents and my niece.
My parents do a lot of gardening, and they have beautiful lilies that bloom every spring. I decided to paint a red lily for them, and then I added some rose petals and smaller red flowers to fill it out. I used watercolor, ink, and a black marker.
My niece loves fish, so I painted a blue fish admiring some tulips for her, using watercolors and markers. It's inspired by this bookmark design by Koyama Moe. I don't plan on selling it or passing the original design off as my own, and all credit for the idea goes to the artist. I tried my best to put a personal touch on it.
They're both messy, but I'm proud of them.
I struggle with drawing from memory, so references are helpful, and besides, copying is how we learn. I don't consider myself an artist by any means, but I love being creative, and I've found painting while listening to music to be a nice way to relax and de-stress. I'm looking into beginner watercolor courses because I'd love to learn actual techniques and maybe get to a point where I'd consider myself to be pretty good at it!
